Class Structure
Our Gymbaroo centre carries out a distinct routine - so loved and important for child development! Each term is planned over a period similar to the school term, with a term theme and a weekly topic related to that theme.
Each lesson begins with 5 minutes free explorative play on our large equipment and is a good time to socialise with other parents and children. Free play is followed by mat time.

Mat time provides an important variety of learning and social experiences. Children develop and gain confidence, concentration and self esteem through:
- Massage
- Exercise
- Small Equipment
- Dancing
- Singing
- Treasure bag
- Rhythm Activities
- Parachute Activities
Children with short attention spans, benefit from the group activities in this friendly environment. The parents and children are invited to come and sit on the mat together as a group and sing a hello song. This is followed by small equipment (beanbags, balls etc), exercise, massage and a dance. Mat time continues with our special treasure bag time which relates to the theme for the term. This provides tactile experiences and is loved by the children encouraging language and social interaction, imagination and visualization. This stimulates memory and pre-reading skills. Mat time is most successful when the parents and carers also join in this fun with their child.
Our specially designed equipment gives your children the opportunity to exercise their skills. We have a large hall full of colourful, safe equipment where your children can experiment with their bodies at their own personal level. This enables them to master their environment and their body movements - a basic step in building confidence, competence and self-esteem.
Equipment time encompasses bouncing, rolling, swinging, spinning, jumping, tumbling and climbing. Teachers are always nearby to offer guidance and teach new skills. Older children will enjoy the challenge of following the circuit and practising new movement exercises. The equipment circuit is changed weekly or fortnightly to introduce new challenges and to suit the neurological and visualization themes of the week. It is also adjusted between each class to suit the particular age group.

The session is concluded with playing musical instruments, parachute activities, finger plays and songs. Making music can enhance learning in other areas of your child's development and assist in language, literature, numeracy, exploring the environment, drama and craft.
Gymbaroo aims to embrace all the wonderful natural developmental activities of early childhood and is a positive experience giving you quality time with your child. We look forward to lots of fun and learning with you and your child.
