Class Structure

Every Song Sung, Every game played and every activity at GymbaROO is specifically designed to increase your child’s capability.

How are classes structured?

  • Programmes are age specific
  • Programmes run over a ten week term (in line with the school terms)
  • Term themes and weekly topics
  • Weekly 45 minute classes
  • Parents/carers participate in the class
  • Parent information handouts and home activities extend the GymbaROO experience.
  • Classes have a distinct routine which is so important for child development.
  • Classes include; freeplay, mat time, treasure bag, equipment time and music.
  • The structure of these components of the lessons alter depending on the age group of the children; the classes for babies are very different than the toddlers classes.

Babies Class (Non Mobile & Crawlers)

A 45 minute precious quality time with your baby will give you the opportunity to learn how to provide activities at home to help your child learn about their world and get a jump-start on their education
Most of our infant sessions focus on tummy time to help your child to gain the important sensory-motor stimulation required for learning. Research has proved that tummy time is one of the most important stages to help your child to learn more about himself and his environment.

The classes are graded non mobile and mobile (commando crawling and creeping) and cover activities such as massage, auditory activities, movement, gentle exercises, music/rhythm/dance, visual (eye tracking) plus lots and lots of ideas for tummy time.

Toddler Class

Throughout the term we cover various areas of development- gross motor and fine motor. The sessions offer a certain routine for your child and some challenges as well throughout the term.

A class includes:

Free Play

Each lesson begins with 10 min free explorative play on our large equipment and is a nice time to socialise with other parents and children. Free play is followed by mat time.

Mat Time

Mat time starts with bubbles and music. The parents and children are then invited to come and sit on the mat together as a group and sing a hello song. Small equipment skills (balls, hoops, ropes, bean bags etc), exercises, massage and a dance will follow. Each exercise is shown and explained to you to enable you to do the same at home.We have our special treasure bag time which follows the theme for the term. This is loved by the children and is important for language, social interaction, tactile experiences, imagination, and reinforces the word for the week which is quickly flashed to your child. This stimulates memory and pre-reading skills. Being fully involved with the activities of your child is beneficial for all children and enhances love, security, joy and learning.

Equipment Time

We have a whole venue filled with large equipment which has been especially designed for young children. Children practice their coordination skills e.g. climbing, balancing, tumbling, jumping, swinging, hanging etc. Younger children use this as valuable exploration time. They will be experimenting with their bodies and learning about spatial awareness, body awareness and their own personal capabilities. Teachers are always nearby to offer guidance and teach new skills. Older children will enjoy the challenge of following the circuit and practicing new movement exercises. The equipment circuit is changed every two weeks to introduce new challenges. We positively encourage and do not force. This must be FUN!

Music Time

The session is concluded with music and parachute time. Each week we have a musical instrument to play and dance with and our big colourful parachute comes out for the children to lie under or play games with. Then everyone sings our traditional goodbye song and goes back home with the week’s picture and word for their GymbaROO scrapbook to use and talk about at home. Parents are also given lots of information handouts on child development, parenting skills and appropriate activities to do at home with their child.

Pre-Schooler/School Readiness Classes

This 1 hour program is aimed at children who are ready to participate in classes independently, learn and co-operate with other children, interact with teachers and peers. Following instructions, taking turns, listening and participating, in a group to encourage confidence and self esteem.

We have specifically designed circuits to further develop the sensory motor skills in order to get the brain ready for learning at school, and mat time activities strengthen pre reading and maths as well as hand eye co-ordination.

Children are taught to respond to teacher and follow 3 step directions; the Gymbaroo “Jump into Reading” program is incorporated into these classes.
